Laser surgery uses a beam of a certain wavelength of light to cut tissue instead of using a scalpel blade.
Patients suffer from less pain after surgery. There is less bleeding during surgery, which means fewer complications. The risk of infection is reduced when a laser is used instead of a scalpel.
There is less pain because the laser seals the nerve endings as it cuts, decreasing the pain impulses. By performing laser surgery, we are able to remove some tumors with just local anesthesia instead of having to use general anesthesia.
There is less bleeding because we also cauterize the ends as we cut with the laser. There is less infection because the laser beam heats up the tissues and destroys any bacteria that may be present.
